Started listening earlier this morning 1445UT, and on and off for the next hour. Can't quite agree entirely with Walt about 594, as I managed to catch them at a brief peak; both 747, 1134, and 1287 also fell into this category, briefly good, but mostly lackluster. There wasn't much of a sunrise lift anywhere on the band this morning, just a general fading down from earlier signal levels.
In the minimalist DX category, 972 still delivered some audio traces at 1703UT, and 1566's carrier lasted until its 1800UT s/off. Even during the last half hour that carrier showed some good strength at times, but no audio. And, rest assured, PAL seems correct about the Russian s/off time on 234. An SDR-14 recording this morning showed its carrier disappearing smartly a few seconds after 1400UT, though there was no usable audio at that time. Next item on the agenda, catching the s/off itself. At any rate, it explains why 234 isn't on the roster of Russian LWBC stations heard at local sunrise on the west coast. pretty darn good audio (at least briefly): 594 JOAK briefly at 1515UT 747 JOIB briefly at 1508UT 774 JOUB ; still at quite good strength at 1540UT s/off 828 JOBB 972 HLCA 1134 Korea //972 a couple of times around 1510UT, with assumed Japan mixing in at lesser strength 1287 at 1509UT; this hasn't been that common a visitor, but two men in JJ perfectly readable at this time reasonable audio at times during the period (though often battling w/splash or noise): 279 R. Rossii 567 JOIK //594 603 at 1516; light pop mx, assumed Korea, but couldn't honestly dig out the parallel on 558 which was too near imaginary for my liking; moments of NHK1 in there as well perhaps. 1206 usual rough audio from China 1566 mighty carrier, relatively tiddly audio not so reasonable audio, occasional words in splash or noise: 189 R. Rossii 639 CNR1//5030, but at least one other as well 657 likely N. Korea under hum 693 JOAB //774 in big CBU splatter 981 CNR1 //5030 1188 western operatic sounding singing by woman at 1537UT; HLKX? 1242 JOLF, JJ talk 1278 mx, so couldn't tell if China or Japan 1314 likely Japan 1323 likely CRI 1503 JOUK//567 at 1524UT 1575 likely Thailand Burbles in the splatter and noise (the bulk of these snagged at sunrise lift around 1530UT): 153 558 621 with a big carrier 756 two audios, neither really readable though; no parallels 918 1044 1251 mostly a hum; big carrier 1269 1386 NHK2//774 Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): 846, 1098, 1422 (all the modulation on this must go to Dennis' radio) best wishes, Nick ***************************** Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada _______________________________________________ IRCA mailing list [email protected] http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: [email protected]
