I turned on my Sony SRF59 "ULR" Walkman just before 5:00pm and began spinning the dials. I sat on 750 waiting for local KMMH Grand Island, NE to sign off. Well, at 5:14 the announcer did the obligatory "This now concludes the broadcast day.." and did a quick sign off message, but the carrier was still on........ and as far as I can tell, stayed on
At about 5:30pm, I very faintly heard oldies music buried in the muck and jumble of AM 750. I had to sit and aim the radio just the right way, or it's get covered in static or a mess of other stations I was able to write down a few lyrics and the first song I was able to make out was "Be My Baby" by The Ronnettes first song which segued into "Baby I Love You" by The Ronnettes with no liner or anything. I also heard weather forecast being given, with temperatures for several Saskatchewan towns being mentioned.. and FINALLY heard a mention of "CK 750" Logged in Ord, Nebraska.... which is Central Nebraska, 1 hour northwest of Grand Island..... 1 hour east of Broken Bow, 3 1/2 hours west of Omaha and about 2 hours south of the Nebraska/South Dakota state line.
