If you can use a "wrist rocket slingshot" device (i.e. not prohibited by local ordinance} you can get a EZ-Hang to cast lines high into/across trees. The slingshot throws a small lead weight attached to monofilament, then you tie/pull back the heavier support line. Price class $100 + s/h www.ezhang.com 540-286-0176.
