I recently logged 30 US states, on ULR's, in less than one year. In
fact, my total listening time is most likely less than 20 hours! While
I'm no expert in DX'ing States (I only have 37 in my overall logbook), I
hope to help you to get to 30 and maybe beyond.

Ever since joining the ULR craze, I started logging again like crazy,
interested in adding to my overall log. I started keeping a separate
logbook, just for ULR's but gave that up several months ago. Since I
have discovered ULR Awards Program, I am reactivating it.

About my ULR logs: These logs are from Indianapolis, Indiana, so DX'ers
on the East Coast (and maybe elsewhere) may also be able to hear the
same things. All were heard on a Sony SRF-59. I have also used other
radios, not recognized as ULR's by the committee. These are the GE
Model 7-1637A and various Sony Cassette-AM/FM Walkmen that must share
some basic ULR lineage as what I can hear on the 59, I can hear on those
and vice versa. I am hopeful that the Cassette Walkmen radios
eventually get added to the approved list as they seem very similar,
many are often digitally tuned and seem to be plentiful on the used
Goodwill/Garage Sale/ Ebay markets.

I hope that calls are current / correct. At least the frequencies
should be! :)

Good Luck!

PS: I'm having trouble posting to the ULR list - can someone post that
there for me? Tnx. DH

* - State on my overall log but not (yet) in my ULR logbook.

** - State not in either logbook

1. Alabama: 770 WVNN. While this one is a good possibility at LSS,
especially in semi-AU conditions, it is often easier at night. They
often remain on day power. So if you hear something u/o WABC in the wee
hours, it could be them. AL is not as easy as neighboring GA for me.
1550 Huntsville can often heard at LSR

**Alaska

*Arizona 660 KTNN best bet during overnights and at LSR (Heard last year
on the car radio at 7 AM)

2. Arkansas You would think KAAY 1090 would be easy but if you are near
the Great Lakes, WFNI and WTAM may create an IBOC buzzsaw on many
frequencies. I caught the X-Bander on 1650.

*California 680 KNBR and 1070 KNX would be the most likely. KFI 640 is
not reported as widely as before their tower issues

3. Colorado 850 KOA, easy.

*Connecticut Well there goes the neighborhood. IBOC has prevented me
from logging 1080 WTIC. That seems most likely if you can get by IBOC
from 1100, 1070 and 1060

**Delaware

*Florida 690 Jacksonville would be a good bet, if you can past WLW and
WSCR's IBOC. 550 WAYR can be had at LSR.

4. Georgia WSB-750 plus many regionals, especially during Auroral
conditions

**Hawaii

**Idaho

5. Illinois The Chicago clears (670, 720, 890, 1000 and to a lesser
extent 1160) are easy but their IBOC jams up others. 560 WIND gets out
well with just 5 Kw

6. Indiana For those South and East of Indianapolis, 1070 WFNI (ex-WIBC)
blankets the area. Try WOWO on 1190 and, at LSR Portage on 750

7. Iowa 1040 WHO is easy as is 1630 KCJJ

8. Kansas Not as easy as one would think but 690 KGGF and KKOW 860 can
be had at LSS (and I've had both on late with day power)

9. Kentucky 840 WHAS plus lots of others, especially on Friday nights
with HSFB

10. Louisiana 870 WWL is dominant and I have 1130 KWKH many nights

**Maine

11. Maryland 1580 Morningside can be caught at LSS and LSR and I've had
them on late. No WBAL for me, the same issues as KAAY

12. Massachusetts 1030 WBZ is one of the nations most famous stations
but for DX'ers West of I-75, it's often barely audible under WHO's IBOC

13. Michigan 760 WJR is easy, although often battling with a Cuban or
maybe HJAJ

14. Minnesota 830 WCCO is easy, especially if WHAS's IBOC remains off.
For a challenge, try for 650 WNMT way after LSR

15. Mississippi 1640 WTNI seems like a good bet and it probably is but
I've had 940 WCPC on at my LSS, on many nights w/Gospel music

16. Missouri 1120 KMOX really stands out. Other than an unID, once,
that is it for it 1120. 810 WHB, from KC is often heard at LSS and 610
KCSP often makes it overnight

**Montana I have yet to hear MT on ANY radio. DX great Neil Kazaross
mentioned to me that I might be able to hear 1180 KOFI right through
WHAM. If you live North or West of Indy, try for 1070 KATQ. It has
been reported in the Midwest

17. Nebraska 590 KXSP (ex-WOW) is in nightly

**Nevada

**New Hampshire

*New Jersey I have only one NJ station in my logbook and it was a DX
test.

**New Mexico 770 KKOB sounds like the best bet but I don't have them in
any logbook

18. New York The NYC Clears (710, 770, 880 and so on) and 810 WGY are in
nightly

19. North Carolina 1660 WFNA can be heard, depending on conditions at
LSS and sometimes @ night. 1110 WBT is clobbered by IBOC noise, here.
Many NC daytimers can be caught just prior to LSS

20. North Dakota While I have 1660 KQWB in my overall log and it seems
easy, I guess that I have yet to log it on the ULR. HOWEVER, I did hear
1600 KDAK Carrington at 90 watts two overnights in a row, so it can be
heard!

21. Ohio 700 WLW and 1100 WTAM are nightly terrors along with their IBOC
"legalized jamming." 1420 WHK also blankets my location, with signals
as good as my local on 1430

22. Oklahoma 1520 KOKC and 740 KRMG can be heard overnights (condition
dependent) and after LSR

**Oregon Neil suggest 860 KPAM and 1190 KEX

23. Pennsylvania 1020 KDKA, 1060 KYW and 1210 WPHT are clears that offer
the best from the "Keystone State"

**Rhode Island

24. South Carolina 660 WLFJ can be nabbed at LSR and I have heard a few
daytimers signing off at LSS

*South Dakota I have heard 570 WNAX many, many times at or after LSS but
not on an "official" ULR

25. Tennessee 650 WSM and 1510 WLAC are best bet. Try Friday nights in
the Fall, as many stations are on late w/HSFB

26. Texas 820 WBAP and 1200 WOAI are clear channel powerhouses

27. Utah When there is good E-W propagation, try for 1160 KSL

**Vermont

28. Virginia 1140 WRVA is a clear

**Washington Neil opines that 1000 KOMO gets out well just prior to
their LSS and a DX'er could hear them under / right through WMVP, He
told me that their news / Mariners BB coverage stands out

29. West Virginia 1170 WWVA can be heard but their night directional
antenna, really stunts the signal to the West (to protect Tulsa). This
one may be easier just prior to their night pattern switch or after they
go non-directional at LSR

30. Wisconsin 1130 WISN and 620 WTMJ have been heard on numerous
occasions

*Wyoming

EXTRA: DC 1500 WFED (ex-WTOP)
