Hi Chris and Paul; Indeed that is a good catch and it shows that the Sony can dig out good DX. Unbelievably, I'm just 180 or so air miles East of Springfield and this one has escaped my logbook. I'll try for them but with their pattern not favoring Indianapolis, I'm not holding my breath. Congrats again Paul on that nice catch!
Paul - as for the boombox, *almost* any radio can get MW skip. I really discovered MW DX in 1976 on an old GE table radio (looked like a clock radio, without the clock) next to my bedside. I heard X-Rock 80 from Cd. Juarez, CHOR Orilla, Ontario and lots of others. Heck even my shower radio can get skip. Good luck! 73, Dave in Indy ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Mon, 9 Mar 2009 16:04:11 -0600 From: "Chris Knight" <[email protected]> To: "Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [IRCA] WMAY-AM 970 Springfield, IL Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Great catches, Paul! I have yet to hear these next door in N.E. Colorado. Chris Knight Fort Lupton, CO -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]on Behalf Of Paul B. WMAY is 1KW Day with 3 towers with SW pattern and 500W at night with 3 towers with a MUCH tighter SW pattern, but a small lobe to the NE. Signal was steady, but not very strong and there was other stuff buried in the mud. I've got KQAQ 970 Austin, MN in here too which it's classic country. Paul B.
