Steve Ratzlaff and I had fun developing the modifications for the "Sliderized-Filterized SWP," and we are happy that the little 9 kHz-split DX chaser gave a good account in sensitivity and selectivity. Your impressions of the relative performance of the other portables follow my own tests pretty closely, and should provide helpful purchasing information to interested hobbyists. The West Coast DX community has done quite a bit of portable radio testing lately. I figured I would make an East Coast contribution with an article "Transistor Radio Shoot-Out at Menotomy Rocks Park". Parameters evaluated in these daytime tests included sensitivity (weak signal audio recovery), selectivity, and strong-signal handling ability. Those who have read some of the other reviews out there on the web may find some similarities with others' findings. The more of this experimentation by more people from more viewpoints, the merrier.
