I haven't seen the weight yet & how many or what kind of batteries, but it is
definitely smaller than just barely fitting in pocket. PLL digital, 1600
memories, wide/narrow BW. No DSP. Availability sometime this year.
Other 2009 releases from Tecsun with PLL digital tuning: PL310, PL330, & PL380.
These will have DSP. You can pick up a few details from Tecsun website but it
is almost all in Chinese. They are pocket size but not quite ultralights. Not
clear if any have SSB, guessing no & prices not known but probably all under
$100??
Tecsun PL300 WT larger than pocket size, seems same as Grundig G8. Conflicting
reports as to if PLL digital tuning or just digital readout. Pics show ATS
(auto tuning & storage of strongest stations), presumed page numbers, add &
delete memories.
Could an analog tuned radio do that? Tecsun uses PL for phase lock loop, DR for
analog tuning with digital readout, R for analog dial. $49.95 + $5.95 from
Universal when it becomes available.
The most interesting portable announced as available this year would be the
larger than pocket size Grundig G3, possibly available late June. It's a
Grundig G5/Eton E5 with sync detection, selectable LSB/USB & RDS on FM as added
features for no extra cost (about $150). 73, George S., MN
