Hi Craig, There is currently a major discussion on the Ultralightdx Yahoo list about improving the PL-300WT's AM sensitivity by aligning the stock loopstick, but it's a rather tricky procedure. This was in response to user reports of varying sensitivity levels. Steve Ratzlaff and I have done the procedure, which involves shifting the coil on the stock ferrite bar, after removal of all the wax. The Silicon Labs DSP chip was designed to perform well in an "no alignment" system on AM, but unfortunately the cost-cutting Tecsun manufacturing methods have compromised the chip designers' original intentions. As a result, alignment seems the best way to ensure optimal PL-300WT AM sensitivity. 73, Gary DeBock In a message dated 6/9/2009 6:46:19 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, [email protected] writes:
Received mine the other day and it seems OK. It's not as sensitive as I'd hoped, but the tuning is better than the other Sony I have. Took a few minutes to discover how to change from 9KHz to 10KHz tuning. Press the button labeled 9KHz/10KHz with the power off. No documentation at all, except for what's printed in Chinese on the box. No prob... The LW/SW is deaf as reported. Do not care... FM seems pretty good. I'll have to drag it along when I take the ferry to a client this Thursday. That gives me a couple hours with nothing to do, and it's on the coastal salt water.
