Not quite on topic but close to it - a group of scientists has
documented lightning flashes going upward from the top of a thunderstorm
into the ionosphere. I can't say I've ever heard of such a thing before.

The article doesn't say what effect, if any, this phenomenon might have
on radio propagation.
