Yes I did notice an increase in noise with the preamp that went with my
old Sanserino loop but more often than not the increase in signal won
out.  In fact, being a casual MW DX'er then like now, I added SEVEN new
stations to my log within two hours of stringing the Sanserino, dueing
the day when the band was dead.  That was a great loop.

Dave,
Pre-amps are often used to boost antenna input.  A good one is made by
DX Engineering, the RPA-1.  I use it occasionally.  There are many
designs posted on the net for diy adventures.  However, some designs are
better than others as far as noise making.  If you live in an
electrically noisy area, a pre-amp will also amplify the background
noise so the benefit is limited.
