I awoke much earlier this morning, so put in varying degrees of listening from 1300 to 1445UT. I'm glad that Walt was unimpressed with conditions, because although various oddities were noted, particularly in the briefly strong signals category, hearing anything was hard work. Another oddity was that although carrier strength was pretty good on a lot of channels, there just seemed to be a lot of domestic splatter, no matter which antenna I used, hence the hard work.
pretty darn good audio (at least briefly): 567 JOIK at 1403UT //594 576 Rst Mayak; the surprise of the morning at 1418UT w/2 men in RR //549 594 JOAK , not steadily by any means 603 HLSA //558 at 1430 followed by KK talk by woman 747 JOIB at 1317 and a couple of other times; usually much worse 774 JOUB 828 JOBB at 1317, and snagged call letter ID at 1320; but often at poor strength with not much else taking its place 936 presumably Anhui, noted several times at this level 972 HLCA at 1438UT, poorer before this reasonable audio at times during the period (though often battling w/splash or noise): 279 R. Rossii, very readable though weaker than above signals 549 Rst Mayak //576 w/men in RR //576 558 HLQH //603 and presumably JOCR, best at 1430 621 man and woman in CC; this popped up quite regularly through the listening period; not at 1400 though... 1044 CRI woman in JJ //7125 and 7235 1287 JOHR after 1300UT; along with the rest of the upper band, this was poorer later 1575 VoA not so reasonable audio, occasional words in splash or noise: 189 R. Rossii //279 531 JOQG //594, but also mx, presumably DU, as not heard on northerly Flag; JOQG has been surprisingly regular of late 657 hum and N. Korea at 1411UT 675 VV talk by man at 1433UT 873 JOGB //828 and hum; N.Korea noted later //2850 945 CNR-1 //5030 w/usual delay at 1318UT 954 JOKR 963 CRI woman in RR //7255 1134 KBS //972 1251 VoR //6145, lots of carrier, rarely audio Burbles in the splatter and noise: 585 JOPG //594 612 666 a mess, think Russia was in there but couldn't properly parallel with 576 702 hum and N. Korea //2850; this is becoming a regular, though never really strong 711 likely HLKA? 738 mx, no idea 837 JOQK //594 later on 864 pretty consistent big carrier, little audio 1143 1593 earlier on Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): 891, 1098 (Asiatic direction), 1566. Actually, a lot of signals fitted into this category this morning. best wishes, Nick ***************************** Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada _______________________________________________ IRCA mailing list [email protected] http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: [email protected]
