Report from Newfoundland:
After having sushi, kim-chi, and shu-mai for breakfast Monday - a morning with
Japan, Taiwan, N&S Korea and China (and unIDs that may take us beyond that), we
enjoyed the 100-mile diet for dinner. Moose stew with root vegetables,
gooseberry jam on toast. With one exception - black tea flavoured with spices
Gandhi might have liked (cardamom, pepper, clove, cinnamon etc). Rewarded with
954, 918 and maybe others from India. Russian and Chinese music (or so it
seemed to me) on 1521 u/Saudi may be China; plus the easier catches from Sudan,
Botswana and Angola all with good enough signals. Jean Burnell and I agree it
was a fun evening with a band loaded with signals. 675 Norway, some Russians
and Belarussians, etc. And lots from close in, like Spain and the U.K. Afghan
strong 1296. Been trying for equally-powered (I may have the freq wrong as it's
downstairs) national station on 1107. A likely suspect is on tape. Both are in
Kabul and I wonder if they're somehow co-located. Or may!
be deliberately not for security reasons. Anyhow, it's in ther WRTH for any of
you who want to try.
We're pleased to read that cx seem to be favourable. Jim - that was quite a
list. Maybe you'll have something in the morning? We'll look into your uniDs,
particularly the off-frequency ones. We'll have lots of recordings upon our
return. Finland is strong here, but thankfully clears out for as few hours each
night. Carries eclectic stuff but not an easy IDer if one likes an easy solid
definitive ID, I wasted quite a bit of time on that Saturday (albeit while
setting up shop here).
In a few minutes we'll see what Tuesday morning brings. Thank you for varioous
well wishes, we'll respond to all shortly in more individual form. Fun to all...
