Fired up the receiver before 1400UT, and wasn't too impressed to start with, but between 1420 and 1450UT, things were pretty interesting. It wasn't so much raw strength on the regulars (as Dennis noted, things were pretty quiet on the lower part of the band), as all sorts of less usual second tier stations, especially on the upper band--a bit of a Taiwan opening it seemed. In addition, though local sunrise was at 1445UT, 954, 972 and 1566 were all heard between 30 and 60 minutes later.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 774 JOUB 1566 HLAZ reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 594 JOAK 747 JOIB 972 HLCA 1386 NHK2 //747 at 1427 not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker 567 JOIK 828 JOBB 1143 CC talk at 1424UT assumed Taiwan 1287 JOHR 1422 JORF 1494 unID, and quite consistent at this level; talk seemed Tagalog, but not sure; Japanese has been heard at Grayland, but 1287 never quite available for a solid parallel Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) : 558 woman talking, seemed //603 at 1432UT, so HLQH 603 HLSA 738 didn't seem //1143, but Asian direction 873 JOGB //774 954 (at 1540UT), likely Japan? 1134 mx, not //972 or 4460, so JOQR? 1161 mx at 1428; Taiwan?? 1503 JOUK, but a SAH as well 1512 NHK2 at 1429 //774 1557 Family Radio Taiwan, deep voiced man at 1448UT 1584 might have been //1503, but not certain, both were at "barely there" level 1593 a tentative on Taiwan Fisheries station; not //774 or 4460, but seemed to match up with 1143. Not 100% certain. An interesting tentative, and has been heard at Grayland. 1602 NHK2 //828 at 1441UT Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): 621 with hum., 666, 1053, 1242, 1269, 1314 w/hum, 1377 best wishes, Nick ********** Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada _______________________________________________ IRCA mailing list [email protected] http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: [email protected] ***************************** Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada _______________________________________________ IRCA mailing list [email protected] http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: [email protected]
