In the late 60's LAPD transmitter on 1730 could be heard in the San Francisco Bay Area at night. Signal was good, even on a transistor radio barefoot. During the 40's when on 1712, they got reports from the East Coast and a ship up near Alaska. Over the years power vary from 250 watts up to 1,000 watts towards the end.
