WHCU 870 in Ithaca NY normally operates at night with 1000 watts directional, all aimed north-northeast from its four-tower array southwest of Ithaca.

But they accidentally shorted out one of the towers when they were installing some antennas for public safety 2-way use a few days ago...so they've applied for an STA to run 250 watts non-directional from the separate daytime transmitter site east of Ithaca instead.

So if you're south or west of Ithaca, this might be a chance to hear WHCU over the next few weeks. They say they'll have the problem fixed within 30 days...

WHCU runs Mark Levin 7-9 PM, Lars Larson 9-11 PM, Dr. Joy Browne 11 PM-1 AM and Coast to Coast 1-5 AM.
