Both 1020 and 1080 heard here too, somewhat more often than I'd reasonably expect. Same with 1170 KJOC. I'd have to check nighttime powers to be certain.

Here's an approach that I've considered, as your NRC-IRCA DX Test Coordinator - to call a station that seems outa whack, talk to the engineer really nicely, tell them what you're noticing. Be really friendly about it. If you sense the engineer is interested in what you have to say, and you're not being given the brush-off, consider using this as an opportunity to help the station and DXers who haven't logged the station.

We can supply all the test tones and morse code IDs they need. And for them maybe we can help the engineer by letting them know who's hearing them and where, and perhaps at what levels (ie., by sending him recordings). In cases where we suspect things are awry, here's the recipe for a test: day pattern and poweer, followed by nightime equivalent, perhaps repeat as needed. Could do a half-and-half - one of each for an hour total (half-hour each segment) or break it down into quarters. Or perhaps - and I'm not a techie so I'm looking for nput from any engineers on the list - let the engineer mix and match, perhaps day pattern with night power, or pre-sunrise authority power, etc...

I'd be curious about any DXer / engineer feedback on this idea...

The bottom line in any potentially sensitive conversation like this is to be really nice about it, going out of your way to be helpful, and *behaving* under the assumption that they will want to solve the problem (even if you suspect or know deep down that this is naive). If you prefer or think it necessary to confront or report, please do not say you're a DXer, and please do not mention DX tests or clubs or the hobby at all. If you must, and there are a few really flagrant cases out there, it's better to quietly alert stations being interfered with than to complain on your own.

Most probably on day power as they've been a flagrant abuser for years, commonly on with day power for Twins games and of course, HSFB and sometimes at other times, or "forgetting" to power down after HSFB or Twins.

The other, even more flagrant abuser in this part of the dial from MN is KJJK 1020. 73 KAZ Barrington IL

Subject: [IRCA] ULR DX...NEW STATION ....more Summer DX!!

Hi Guys:

Well summer is kinda slowly winding down here, but I guess Aug/08 is
still Summer as far as DXing goes!! Surprised to catch a NEW STATION for
the ULR Log last night at Bedtime. It's a Relog for the OVERALL LOG but
is a Station I have only heard ONCE before. Power is listed as 1 KW/11
Watts Nights. I don't know if they were on Daytime Power...but still a
good catch at 1 KW Daytime Power. If they were @ 11 Watts....all the better!

Tomorrow afternoon I will be having my Knee Surgery and will be home for
5 weeks of Recovery.....leaving me with lots of time to DX. Hoping for
some big TROPO openings on the FM/TV Bands...and maybe an early start to
the AM BCB DX Season!! Maybe I can add a few more NEW AM Stations during
the Summer!!

Radio Used..........SONY SRF-T615 ULR Barefoot

ULR LOG Totals are now......837 Stations Heard
