Must be something in the Victoria air, as like Walt, I started later than I intended (1400UT), to be met with an antenna problem (disconnect due to wind), and computer hassles. So, listening was from 1410 to around 1430UT, and definitely things were quieter on the lower band compared with the last few days. Not sure why this should have been...first sign of the Mid-Winter Non-Anomaly already? Geomagnetic conditions seem to be fairly dull overall, no uptick in the solar wind etc.
Some of the poor response might have been due to spending less time DXing and more time troubleshooting problems. pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 1287 JOHR at 1419 1566 HLAZ at 1410, but fading thereafter reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 1323 presumed CRI, but couldn't find any SW parallels. Before it faded to this level, it sounded vaguely like EE, and even when listenable, it didn't really sound like anything I recognized...RR with a CC accent perhaps, hi. not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker 594 JOAK 774 JOUB at 1422UT, not before Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) : 612 DU EE inflected talk at 1420UT; 4QR? 936 Anhui?? 972 presumed HLCA 1143 1242 JOLF? 1422 JORF? Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): a number of them, but not many that were consistent best wishes, Nick ***************************** Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada _______________________________________________ IRCA mailing list [email protected] http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: [email protected]
