Hi, Here in Manitoba, colleges and universities have courses in broadcasting
and these institutions also have their own radio stations; but they are all
on FM. There is no interest in AM. Also quite a few small towns have their
own low power FM stations. Of course I like it this way as it frees up AM
frequencies every time an AM station moves to FM.

By all means give us your report on Alberta. One would think that there
would be schools and universities all in line waiting to snap up these
empty frequencies. Either radio just doesn't have the same appeal that it
once did or the legal aspects are overwhelming....Every town should be
represented by some type of station (large or small) The news of the
weather events in the South and Midwest this past week has been severely
depressing to hear. I can't remember it being that bad since the mid 70s.

There is a CP for a Ethnic station on 850, the old CJJC/CKVR frequency.
CKMO-900 may be going dark in the future. But most frequencies stay
dark. One engineer I was talking too thinking that since the Canadians
are not using the frequencies, then we should. Sorry, Canada owns those
I tryed to tell him. They should have the right to use or not to use the
channels. If we used them them, and down the road Canada decided to put
a station back on the channel, then what happens? Doesn't the US have
enough stations? Few AM stations in the US make any money. But anyway,
there is so much history. I should go through the Alberta list and see
what I come up with there.
