Pat's "New XE's are rare up here" comment reminded me of a time I recently got lucky... I woke up early in the morning on the 5th of this month. (There may have been a little light on the eastern horizon, but I don't think local stations had switched to daytime operation yet - I'd guess 4 or 5 am PDT although it could have been 6 am.) Sitting next to me was my Sony SRF-59, so I grabbed it and put the headphones on. Not 10 seconds after I turned it on, I heard a station (in spanish) identify themselves as "XEEH" and go into the type of detailed TOH ID typical of a lot of Mexican stations I've heard. Upon checking the FCC's site, it turned out to be a graveyard (!) station - 1230kHz, 1kW, 795 miles at 131°. Apparently the tuning on the SRF-59 had gotten bumped before I turned it on, as A - I thought I had left it tuned to a different frequency (don't remember which one now), and B - XEEH was fairly easily on top, and the traces of co-channel interference underneath didn't sound at all like a graveyard. Have any of you ever gotten lucky like that? :)
