Patrick,
There is a place where old QSL's are saved and stored to preserve this
aspect of radio history. The Committee to Preserve Radio Verifications
(CPRV) set up and run by noted SW DX'er Jerry Berg has been in operation
since 1986. They collect old QSL's from DX'ers that have retired or passed
on and store them with help from the Library of American Broadcasting at the
University of Maryland. They cover both SW and MW veries. They provide
stickers that you put on your QSL albums to let others know that, when they
are no longer needed or wanted, the QSL's can be sent to the CPRV's address.
The last I heard, they had a collection in the 10's of thousands.
Their website and contact info is:

Hope this helps.

Martin,
What we need is a museum for DXers to will their QSLs to. So many DXers
QSLs have gone in the trash through the years.
