Our annual summer dxpedition at St. Croix Regional Park in Denmark Township
was held today. It normally is held at Frontenac State Park in July but with
the government shutdown that left us scrambling. This site is just 10 miles SE
of my QTH.
Mike Bates who is the prez of the MDXC really enjoyed the experience and
showing off his SDR using a quicksilver radio. For me this was my first
experience with a SDR and it was amazing! I was instantly sold on this style of
dxing. Mike explained that Google will identify each station. We did not have
internet out there. Just amazing!
Craig, Mr. Kiwa himself, made a surprise appearance and did some broadcasting
on the amateur side. He is going to update my newly acquired Hallicrafter S40 A
with new caps and tubes. Hopefully it wont need resistors.
The dxing left much to be desired, however I really enjoyed talking to everyone
that showed up. 8 people showed which is above average.
Next year we tossed around the idea of moving the dxpedition to June. Hopefully
it can be at Frontenac.
It was a great time. We always encourage out of towners to come to our meetings
and dxpedition's.
Our next dxpedition will be in the middle of winter.
