I've got a big black plastic knob on the thing. I think the main problem is that the tuning capacitor is mounted inside the loop, and I get hand capacitance effect without even touching the capacitor or the knob.
I may try moving the capacitor to a spot outside the loop, or maybe even use some MVAM109's (I have some somewhere) to tune the loop with a 10 turn pot and a 9-volt battery.
