On April 20, my wife and I embarked on a trip to Asia which included Singapore, Penang and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Phuket and Bangkok (Thailand). We also had a four hour wait between planes in Hong Kong. I am OK on Romance languages and can differentiate between Mandarin, Japanese and Korean, but in an environment of Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian/Indonesian, guesswork reigns supreme. SINGAPORE 4/27 9pm local 540 Filipino; probably DYRB 558 Aussie sports. 6WA? 684 two Aussies 720 Oman? 756 Arabic 1008 Surabaya presumed (NOTE: No daytime AM signals, but I didn't DX outside the hotel) PENANG 4/28 4pm local 801 ? 1062 (Phuket presumed) 1269 I am very curious about this one. Pretty definitely not Bangkok or Songkhla 1458 (Phuket presumed) PENANG 4/28 9pm local 549 jamming 675 ? 684 CRI EE lesson. Dongfang, Hainan listed 891 Thailand. This is interesting because both here and in Phuket, there seemed to be a second synchronized signal. PENANG 4/29 10pm local 549 jamming 603 very loud CC 1044 Arabic? KUALA LUMPUR 4/30 10pm local 612 loud - Vietnam? 1575 VOA at good level PHUKET 5/2 3pm local 720 loud, //963 & 1062 810 828 963 // 720 & 1062 1062 local // 963 & 720 1269 (still curious) 1350 1458 local fair PHUKET 5/3 9pm local 1296 RFI. Listed as Kunming 1530 Filipino. DZME listed BANGKOK At 4am, 648 and 711 were jumbles. 999, 1350, 1422 and 1557 had OCs. 1593 (CC) was the only non-Thai station noted. At 7:30am on 5/7, 44 local signals were noted with the government newscast. 891 and 1575 were the only locals not carrying it (plus all the FMs which are seemingly exempt). Otherness: (1) Kota Kinabalu-1475 not noted anywhere; (2) I did not miss not landing at Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong (if you are an old-time traveler, you will know what I mean).
