I was using that article by Nick and John as my reference for the transformer winding throughout the project. My first version of the windings (fewer turns, same ratio) was in the overlapping style, which I usually use for broadband transformers. I cannot remember now why I changed the style to separated windings for the final version I'm using. Maybe I read something else on the web that was more persuasive regarding the capacitive coupling issue. In any case the side by side winding is an exception for me and I might go back to the overlapping style I've used on other broadband transformers. I parked along the cliff with the roof top antenna's windings oriented due west, so that I could catch DU and TP signals equally. The reception lobes of a ferrite loop are very broad with a narrow null aperture so I felt it was a "safe" bet to split the difference. There's very little room to maneuver on the cliff anyway <g> This morning I finished capturing my third day of Perseus recordings at the cliff, but I may be delayed for a few days reviewing them and logging the DX. The reception from the cliff continues hopping with activity and the antenna is quite sensitive for even the weakest signals that are propagating. If I can, tomorrow I'm going to record a few minutes from near sea level, and then drive to the cliff for comparisons.
