Hello All,

The auroral conditions this morning brought South Pacific reception a
little stronger than yesterday, although at the expense of Asiatic TP signals.
In this DU-dead zone there never is much hope of any audio reception from NZ or
Australia, although the teasing pattern of up-and-down NZ carriers (603 weak,
657 strong, 675 moderate, 1008 weak, and 1035 moderate) was back again at 1345,
providing strong evidence of unusual solar activity. At 1347 the carrier on 657
kHz suddenly shot up in strength and reached threshold audio level, but there
wasn't enough signal to confirm any Christian music from Southern Star. As with
all the other NZ carriers, its signal was wildly erratic throughout the
session. Strangely enough, none of the Australian big guns have ever produced
even weak carriers here throughout the entire season.
594-JOAK was the only Asiatic TP that managed ghostly audio at 1358 for a
few seconds, but because of its southerly location 1575-VOA was at a strong
carrier level throughout the entire session. The star of the morning was again
738-Tahiti, which overcame KCBS splatter around 1400 to provide fairly good
signals at the TOH. Overall the morning was pretty mediocre, but the brief few
seconds of audio on 657 kHz was the first audio reception from New Zealand
during the past two years at this landlocked location.

594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Ghostly Japanese OM speech rising
above noise level at 1358; dropped out immediately
657 Southern Star Wellington, NZ (presumed) A few seconds
of ghostly audio at 1347 during reception of
various "big gun" NZ carriers; very unstable
738 R. Polynesie Mahina, Tahiti Fair-good French YL speech
and music during 1400 TOH fanfare
