Hello All,

Yesterday's halfhearted Asiatic recovery was stopped in its tracks this morning
as the latest solar tantrum made the band "go south" once again. Despite the
auroral propagation 738-Tahiti wasn't doing particularly well from 1330-1410,
and the only fair audio was was 1575-VOA, which because of its southerly
location has been able to ride out the solar roller coaster pretty well this
season. A bizarre twist this morning were the Japanese and Korean signals being
completely wiped out, but poor audio from the Chinese on 603, 1044 and 1377
coming out of the noise for a few seconds occasionally. Since these Chinese
signals presumably follow the same propagation path as the Japanese and
Koreans, it would seem that the sour propagation should have wiped them out
along with the Japanese and Koreans-- but that certainly wasn't the case here.
603-Hulun Buir was the best of the Chinese this morning, but its signal was
just barely strong enough to identify the language. In general, it wa!
s another mediocre morning, but the uneven propagation made it halfway
interesting.

603 Hulun Buir, China Poor male-female Chinese speech rising
above noise level at 1404; in and out throughout session
738 Radio Polynesie Mahina, Tahiti Poor French YL speech at
1352; losing out to heavy KCBS splatter
1044 CRI Jiangsu, China Threshold audio during Japanese
               external program at 1355
1377 China (presumed) Poor music rising above noise level for
               a few seconds at 1358
1575 VOA Ban Rassom, Thailand Fair Asiatic language male
speech in and out at 1404; best TP of a weak session
