Hello All,
This morning's TP session here was generally a watered-down repeat of
yesterday, with some high-band enhancement noted around 1400, but nothing like
yesterday's fireworks. Around 1340 the Asiatic TP's were all comatose, without
even a carrier showing up. 738-Tahiti was managing fair French audio during
this period, but no NZ or Australian stations were managing any trace of a
carrier in this DU-dead zone. Around 1350 the high band Asiatic big guns on
1377, 1566 and 1575 suddenly came to life like yesterday, rising from weak
carriers to fair audio within about 5 minutes. After Bruce's report yesterday I
was motivated to check for 1593-CNR1, which is a very tough catch here because
of the 1590-Seattle QRM. To my surprise the station was doing quite well at
1358, with fair Chinese YL speech making it through the Seattle splatter about
half of the time. This was the first reception of 1593-CNR1 here for the past
three years. Unfortunately the high band TP enhancement never reach!
ed yesterday's superb levels, and when the session was cut short at 1410 only
1377-CNR1, 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA were still around-- all with only fair audio
in and out of the noise. By contrast 738-Tahiti's French audio had continued at
a steady fair level throughout sunrise enhancement, unlike the highly variable
high band Asiatic TP's. Overall the session was interesting because of the
1593-CNR1 reception, but somewhat of a letdown after yesterday's high-band TP
bonanza. As with most rare propagation opportunities, once you are fully
alerted and have all your antennas ready for action, the best propagation is
long gone.
