Hello All,
Once again the Asian sunset period (0930-1030 UTC) had vastly superior TP
signals to the West Coast sunrise period (1400-1500 UTC), and unlike yesterday
morning, I was ready with the 8" FSL and MP3 recorder to DX in the back yard
despite the early morning hour. The Japanese big guns were especially vibrant
during this period, with 747-JOIB producing its best signal of the entire
season (and the best Japanese signal of the entire season) during its Radio
English Conversation program at 0950. 774-JOUB also produced its best signal of
the season around 1014, although the splatter from semi-local 770-KTTH didn't
make it easy. 594-JOAK equaled its best audio of the season, while 972-HLCA had
its typical booming signal with YL talk and Korean pop music around 1007. All
of these signals were very potent-- and a stark contrast to the anemic TP's
that showed up around sunrise. Despite the strong big guns during the Asian
sunset the weaker TP's on 558, 603 and 738 didn't quite ma!
nage the same audio that they did yesterday, and the presumed Chinese carriers
on 639, 936, 1035 and 1044 never came up to audio.
By contrast the West Coast sunrise TP-DXing session this morning was
pretty dreary, with only 972-HLCA coming up to good audio around 1457, and
657-Pyongyang coming up to fair audio with its ancient music at 1455. The
Japanese were completely silent during the entire sunrise session here-- an
astonishing contrast to their booming signals during the Asian sunset only a
few hours earlier. After listening to several of these NHK big guns from
0930-1030 UTC this morning, it's easy to understand why Nick could hear them
all the way over in Prince Edward Island during the DXpedition this month.
