One of my best ever DX catches was not actually the farthest away. My best AM DX catch was heard in Marion, IL and the station in question was then-KCLE 1140 Cleburne, TX (SW of Forth Worth). The station operates with 5KW/4 towers day and 710W/4 towers night but is known as KHFX now.
It was programming classic country back then when I heard it. I was on the west side of Marion, Illinois fairly close to the Williamson County Airport when I had a boombox on while sitting in a vehicle in a store parking lot waiting for a friend. I put a tape in and hit record.. not knowing what I might get as i spun across the dial. It wasn't till a week later when I was going over the tape in the Production Room at KNLV 1060/103.9 Ord, Nebraska (Where I worked) and heard a KCLE id buried in the mud. TOTALLY UNEXPECTED! What makes this even more "amazing" is that I was less then 5 air miles from the 44W/2 tower night signal of WGGH-AM 1150.. I was right in their night time null. When I hit record o nthe tape, I was actually recording just waiting til li tuned in WGGH and didn't wanna miss anything. Here's a short clip of what I heard back in 2008: www.onairdj.com/1140.mp3 Paul Walker www.onairdj.com _______________________________________________ IRCA mailing list [email protected] http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: [email protected]
