Hello All,
It may sound like a rerun, but the Kiwi regulars were pounding in at the
Cliff as usual this morning, along with some big gun Aussies. 531-PI, 567-RNZ
and 576-2RN all managed excellent signals, and 756-RNZ (usually a weak
underperformer) managed its best audio of the trip so far. The UnID Aussie
talker on 531 managed to sneak in a weak signal just before the 1300 TOH (when
I was hoping for a clue) only to have the 5 kW Kiwi station 531-PI smother the
frequency with Samoan music. Encouraged by Bruce to try some of the higher
frequencies, 1008, 1017 and 1503 kHz were all checked out-- all apparently
yielding more Kiwis (although 1008 had an Aussie co-channel at times,
presumably 4TAB).
Several low-band targets are still playing hard to get, including
558-Radio Fiji One (heard at a vibrant level at Lincoln City in 2010),
666-Noumea (heard at moderate strength // 738 in Lincoln City in 2011) and
936-New Supremo (apparently heard here last year in August, but without any
Chinese speech). Thanks to Bruce for the tip on 1017-Tonga's sign-off around
1108... if it were not for the fact that this is supposed to be "family
vacation," I might be tempted to make an early trip to the Cliff to snag it
(although a decent MP3 from 2010 is still in the computer).
I'm happy that the Yachats DXpedition group is now in operation, and wish
them the best of DX during their remaining time here on the Oregon coast.
Welcome (especially) to the overseas DXers who are chasing DU's for the first
time. If not for the scheduling quirk, I would have really enjoyed DXing
together with your group, and staying the rental house in Yachats (under
Landlord Bill's house rules).
