Hello All,

The second-tier Chinese stations from yesterday mostly went back into the
woodwork this morning as Asian signals took somewhat of a dive. Although the
Japanese and Korean big guns on 594, 747,774, 828, 972 and 1053 had no trouble
reaching decent audio during the sunrise session (along with 1575-VOA, late in
the session around 1350), unlike yesterday the Chinese on 918, 936, 981, 1377
and 1593 never really got far out of the noise.

For the first time this season I noticed a droning jammer on 603 interfering
with China's (Hulun Buir?) signal around 1335, and I'm pretty sure that either
Bruce or Nick reported this 603 jammer earlier this month (at first, I thought
it might be local electrical noise). Maybe something new from North Korea,
unhappy with 603-HLSA's cheerful pop music so close to the border? The Chinese
1017-CRI Korean service had fair to good audio late around 1355 with its
Chinese lessons for Korean listeners, and 657-Pyongyang was back again around
1347 with ancient female vocal music (having potent signal strength, but
undermodulated as usual). The biggest surprise of a lackluster session occurred
around 1343 when 639-CNR1 rose out of the noise to a huge level (probably the
strongest it's ever been heard here in 7 years of TP-DXing) only to crash back
down into the noise within 5 minutes. This was apparently the same 639-CNR1
peak heard by Dennis at 1343 with a very weak signal, but here !
it was certainly strong enough to get any DXer's undivided attention. Overall
it was a pretty strange session, with the huge 639-CNR1 signal finally
providing some excitement in an otherwise routine morning.
