Like Dennis, Bruce and Nick have already reported, some very strong Asian
signals lit up the band here this morning. It was probably the best session of
the season for the Japanese and Korean big gun TP's, with 594, 693, 747, 774,
828, 972,1053 and 1134 (KBS) all reaching very strong audio at times.
Second-tier Asian 603-HLSA hit another huge level with its long music set at
1353, and 657-Pyongyang pegged the PL-380 S/N display for the first time ever
here with orchestral music at 1355 (thankfully, not shouted tirades). 558-HLQH
managed its best audio of the season so far with good level music // 603 at
1351, and 963-CRI was in at a fairly good level with its Russian service at
1401. The second-tier Chinese stations on 603, 639, 738, 756, 936, 981 and 1323
were all there with fair audio in and out, although the CRI stations on 963
(Russian), 1017 (Korean), 1044 (Japanese) and 1323 (Russian) had better overall
signal strength than the Chinese domestic broadcasters during the !
session. All four of those CRI stations reached good audio levels at times
738-BEL2 in Taiwan was managing fair to good audio for most of the session, and
the 1400 TOH was also recorded here at a fair to good level with fast-paced
news by a Chinese female announcer starting at 1400. I was able to match the
same Chinese female voice (with her fast-paced news) on the 1143-BEL3 parallel
station at 1401, although at a weaker level. This was the first time that I've
been able to confirm the 738-1143 Taiwan stations' parallel programming this
season (after an investigation by Chuck that the parallel still exists) .
Another Chinese station was received here on 1143 kHz on 9-21 which was not
parallel to 738-BEL2; and unlike earlier reported, that station was not BEL3,
but a mystery Mainland Chinese station. 1143 Chinese audio is pretty unusual
here, so it may be a while before the mystery Chinese station can be
investigated. In summary it was a very exciting session, with highly unusual TP
signal strength across the lower and middle band frequencies.
