WWCS sure sounds like full power. Could even be ND, but I have no way to tell.
Could a faulty antenna monitor have been responsible for their disappearance
here last year? All I could get on 540 most of last year in the daytime was a
very weak signal out of WGTH, Richlands, VA.

Given their financial weakness (three format changes in the six years before
they went silent, few or no local spots), I'd say WLGC may be gone. I can't
imagine them operating on much reduced power. They have to put a listenable
signal into Huntington and Ashland to compete in that market.

I never understood why WJAW-630 didn't dominate the channel here in Albany.
With 1 kw ND, and a transmitter near Parkersburg, they should have been as
strong as the other Parkersburg and Marietta stations (even WMOA dominates
1490). Yet they were always just about even w/WLAP. Now they are blowing WLAP
away. As I recall, they mentioned new listeners in the "Clarksburg-Morgantown
corridor." They are ESPN and ID frequently and run a lot of local spots and
promos, so if you don't have them, you might want to try. Some IDs are done by
local boy Nick Swisher. TOH IDs are, "ESPN on the radio, WJAW, St.
Mary's-Parkersburg and WJAW-FM, McConnellsville-Marietta." During major
national sports broadcasts they sometimes add WMOA to the feed and do
three-station IDs.

WWCS was granted an engineering STA on December 31 which approved removal of
the antenna monitor. It is being sent to the manufacturer for repair. It is
expected that the repairs will take 60-70 days. The station requested authority
to operate at "minor variance" for 90 days pending repair and reinstallation of
the monitor. The "minor variance" was not specified. Some engineering STAs for
directional stations are granted for nondirectional operation at 25% of the
licensed power.

WEMM was granted a legal STA (notification of suspension of operations/request
for silent STA) on July 31, 2013. The justification was that the station had
been vandalized and "necessary equipment" had been stolen. It expected to
return to the air in "a few weeks".

WLGC was granted a legal STA on January 25, 2013. The justification was that
storms caused a fire which damaged the transmitter, which led to antenna
"maintenance issues".

I am not familiar with these stations. WEMM's "few weeks" have long since gone
by. WLGC went dark on October 4, 2012. A station off the air for more than
twelve months is subject to having it's license deleted.

Subject: [IRCA] Status of Nearby Stations

Hi All:

Have noted the following lately

WWCS, 540 Canonsburg, PA back in at full strength, sigs equal to WKRC and WCHS
here. Had been inaudible (but on) most of last year.

WJAW, 630, St. Mary's, WV now totally dominates WLAP & is actually listenable
here. Jawco runs a three-station shopping spree three times a year. On the
Christmas one they said they were getting a lot of calls from the "Clarksburg
Corrridor," apparently new listeners, so I wonder if this one has bumped power
up. Was off one morning in December for "transmitter maintenance."

WEMM, 1200, Huntington, WV still silent. I only hear the New Castle here. They
advertise the FM on channel 3-TV, but no mention of the AM in those ads.

WLGC, 1520, Greenup, KY not a peep out of `em here. All I can get on that
channel is a bit of WLGN splatter, no matter what rx I try. If they're on,
they're running low power into a long wire or something. There is absolutely
nothing on that channel here all day. Their FM, licensed to South Webster, OH,
is still on and playing cw.
