Sorry about that Les. Thanks for filling in what I neglected to! For Washington State, in my opinion your best bet is KGA-Spokane 1510, heard at least a couple times every year during the last week of October at their sunset pattern change. Incidentally that reminds me you can get sunrise and sunset info for every station at Barry MacLarnan's excellent database at the "Topaz Designs" website.
Others have reported hearing KOMO-Seattle 1000 at sunset, but I haven't heard that one yet at least not at sunset. Used to be semi regular when Chicago station would go off on Monday mornings, sadly those days are gone. South Dakota is another one that used to be easy when Richmond Virginia would go off every Sunday morning on 1140 and KSOO-Sioux Falls (and sometimes CKXL Calgary) would boom in. Now your best bet for South Dakota is either KSOO-1140 at sunset or KOKK-1210 also at sunset or sunrise. Good luck, keep us posted! Glad to help. I didn't know exactly where each station was located, and felt the need to add a few notes to help me log them. If you're keeping score at home, or just compiling your own target list, you might want to add the following: 660 KTNN, Widow Rock, AZ (Navaho language) 50KW, nighttime pattern protects WFAN in NYC. Look for them before pattern change 720 KDWN Las Vegas, NV 50KW, nighttime directional. News/Talk format. "K-DAWN". Look for them before pattern change 850 KOA Denver, CO 50KW, Clear Channel-Check for this powerhouse to appear earlier and louder than normal. 1030 KTWO Casper, WY 50 KW, nighttime pattern protects WBZ in Boston. Mix of country and news-talk format. Look for them before pattern change 1160 KSL Salt Lake City, UT 50KW, News-Talk format-Listen for this one to appear earlier and louder than normal 1580 KMIK Tempe, AZ 50KW Radio Disney format- Check before pattern change, sometimes after. Of these, I've logged KTNN, KOA, and KSL only. But I haven't tried for them at sunset yet. What would be the best bet for a station in Washington state? Any other recommendations to fill out the Top Ten? Seems I recall a target station in South Dakota (?) that used to be pretty well heard at SSS...as I recall, they broadcast farm reports, commodities pricing, etc. Content really stood out from the usual fare.
