Hello All,

The low band Asians were back in force this morning, with the Japanese big guns
on 594, 693 and 828 especially potent. Asian mainland stations were also
around, though, including some mystery Chinese at a fair level on 738 kHz
around 1455.

My session started off at 1430 with both 594-JOAK and 828-JOBB at very good
levels in the total darkness, with 693-JOAB not far behind in strength. Around
1445 603-HLSA's pop music came up to a fair level (without China), and both
648-VOR and 657-Pyongyang also managed to reach fair levels in and out of the
domestic splatter. The most interesting signal on the low band was on 738 kHz,
however. Some Chinese female speech came up to a fair level at 1455, but the
format (and announcer) didn't sound anything like BEL2's typical variety show
programming, and the 1143 kHz // was unavailable. It's very unusual for any
Mainland Chinese station to show up on 738 here unless it's in some kind of a
mix with BEL2 in Taiwan. The middle band featured good signals in and out from
both 972-HLCA and 1134-KBS prior to 1500, along with fair signals from both of
the CRI stations on 1017 and 1044 kHz. After 1500 both 594-JOAK and 828-JOBB
had unusual staying power on the low band, but the Asian !
mainland TP's on 603, 648, 657 and 738 started to bail. On the high band only
1566-HLAZ had any real energy this morning, reaching a very good level around
1505. The other high band regulars on 1377, 1503, 1575 and 1593 never really
seemed to come out of hibernation. Overall it was a fairly interesting session,
and a distinct improvement over yesterday's anemic propagation.
