Hello All,
For those interested, a couple of Australian members of the Ultralight radio
group have identified (and provided information) about the two 639 mystery
stations recorded on MP3's during the last (exceptional) morning at Cape
Perpetua.
Sam Dellit of the ADXC listened to the MP3 recording linked below and
deciphered a "Coffs Harbour" mention at 1:40 into the recording-- identifying
the commercial-type format as from the 5 kW station 639-2HC in Coffs Harbour,
NSW.

Identifying the other 639 station (running the ABC LR network) in the recording
below was a little trickier. It had been noted as parallel to 891-5AN which
runs the LR network, but there are two ABC LR network stations on 639-- a 10 kW
transmitter in Port Pirie, South Australia and a 1 kW transmitter in Mossman,
Queensland. Paul Philbrook of South Australia provided the critical information
that there is a 30 minute time delay in ABC programming between the South
Australia and Queensland states-- so that any 639 signal directly parallel to
891-5AN must be the 10 kW station 5CK in Port Pirie, South Australia. Thus the
identity of the LR network station dominant on 639 during the next recording
was nailed down as 5CK.

The third and final morning of the Cape Perpetua DXpedition had quite a few
wild mixes of Australian stations like this on various frequencies-- so it's
going to take some time before all the identities are nailed down. At least the
Australian DXers have completely solved the 639 mysteries.
