Hello All,

Asian propagation rebounded very well this morning, with exceptional signals
from both the low band Japanese and mid band Korean big guns prior to 1300.
Sunrise enhancement was lacking, however, and signals generally took a dive
with the increasing daylight. Low band Chinese stations also seemed to be
overlooked in the early propagation bonanza.

At my 1240 start time 594-JOAK was already pegging the PL-380 S/N readout at
25, and 693-JOAB, 747-JOIB, 774-JOUB and 828-JOBB were all at seasonal best
strength. Prior to 1300 the Korean big guns on 972 and 1053 also had
exceptional signals, and both 603-HLSA and 738-BEL2 were managing fair audio.
The less powerful Japanese stations on 531 and 585 didn't seem to be getting
much of a boost, however, and the low-band Koreans and Chinese on 558, 639 and
657 were at anemic levels. There were some fair strength signals from the CRI
stations on 1017 and 1044, but with the exception of a vibrant 1287-JOHR the
high band seemed to be overlooked in the potent predawn propagation. Signals
pretty much stayed this way until around 1330, when it seemed like a general
damper was thrown over the band. The Japanese big guns slacked off in strength
somewhat, and both 603-HLSA and 657-Pyongyang were in and out of the noise
until the end of the session. The only signal which seemed to get somewhat of a
daylight boost was 738-BEL2, which hit a fairly good level with pop music after
the KCBS fade prior to 1400. 603-HLSA also managed a fair to good peak around
1355, although both 639-CNR1 and 648-VOR were missing in action after the 1330
propagation
slowdown. There were many exceptional Japanese and Korean signals this morning,
but the best of the bunch were 594-JOAK and the 1053-Jammer-- both of which
pegged the PL-380 S/N display for extended periods in the predawn darkness
prior to 1300. The Grayland DXpedition group must have had quite an enjoyable
morning, especially with the potent propagation rebound after yesterday's
dreary conditions.
