Chuck and Walt, After all the profound discussion about the new C. Crane "Skywave's" audio reproduction I finally remembered that the model has two selectable audio options-- "Music" (the default option, under which the previous Shootout MP3's were recorded) and "Voice" (which deletes the high-treble audio emphasis, and makes the audio sound pretty much identical to that of the Tecsun PL-380 in its 1 kHz DSP selection). The "Voice" option is not played up very much in the Skywave manual, and is not labeled on the front panel. You need to go to the end of the manual to find out about it, and then press the "1" and "2" buttons simultaneously (while the radio is on) to select it. So a DXer can choose which of the two audio patterns he prefers, if he is optimistic enough to attempt transoceanic DXing with the barefoot Skywave portable. I suppose that for $89.95 (before shipping) that is probably the least we should expect. Gary ----- Original Message -----

Tecsun PL-380-- Daytime DX Shootout I guess it works for you, Chuck, but to me I prefer the higher frequencies even with the mild hiss. For whatever reason, I find it less fatiguing and more intelligible as well. 73, Walt On Monday, December 29, 2014, Chuck Hutton < [email protected] > wrote: > Gary - > Intelligibility is almost completely determined by frequencies below 3000 > Hertz, hence the 3400 Hertz upper limit in the phone system.
