SOME of these things -- the freq checks, the SPs, the splits -are gone. But the
DX tests, while not as frequent these days as in years gone by, are still out
there, thanks to the efforts of Brandon Jordan, Paul Walker, and others. The
sign-ons and sign-offs are still out there, if you know where to find them
(nowadays, I would bypass anything north of 1240 and instead focus on the clear
channels from 1220 on down). And though it's like pulling teeth to get QSLs
these days, those can still be attained, as well, as attested by DXers like
David Jones, Pat Martin, and Martin Foltz.

I'm going to milk this hobby for all its worth for as long as it's around, and
I envision it being around for many (i.e., longer than 20!!) years to come. If
AM stations here and in Mexico take Canada's lead and start dropping like
flies, that will leave a lot of exotic loggings to be had from Central and
South America and from the other sides of both ponds. I'm an optimist, and I
believe that there will always be SOMETHING out there to DX on MW.

A career low of four new ones here in 2014, all from the first quarter.

We've lost everything - frequency checks, equipment tests, DX tests, sign-ons,
sign-offs,
silent periods, verifications, auroras, Western Hemisphere splits, drifters -
and still I run
nightly unattended recordings.

Don't ask me why.

Only 18 new ones in 2014, maybe I'll do better this year. I'm up to 2534
heard.
