Hi Patrick and all,

Drake ceased repair operations of all amateur and shortwave radios back in July 2012. A former employee, John Kriner, apparently will work on the R8 series, at least for now, through his private business. Looks like you got in under the wire.

Bill,

Drake still repairs the R8's, as I had mine reconditioned a couple years ago
and it works better than new.

Subject: [IRCA] Drake R8

When I got up today the Drake R8 was working normal and I got 1 new station
KWXY-1340 in Cathedral City, California. But, the next time I turned the
Drake R8 it came on for a few seconds than I heard a big pop noise and it
went dead. So now I am back to the R-390A which is still working.
