Hello All,

Intrigued by Nick's report of a "pretty thunderous" signal from 1566-HLAZ
yesterday just after 1300, I tuned in myself at that early hour this morning--
and found some pretty thunderous signals indeed. A potent sunrise enhancement
boost just after 1420 once again brought the low band regulars on 594, 603, 693
and 747 up to very energetic levels, with 594 and 603 seeming to compete with
each other to reach S9 levels around 1435.

Although live DXing around 1300 isn't really recommended for good family
relations the Asians made the effort worthwhile this morning, with 1566-HLAZ
hitting some "thunderous" peaks during its Japanese service at both 1322 and
1344 (just prior to its switch to Chinese). 972-HLCA was also hitting some very
good peaks around 1330 with Korean conversation, while 1575-VOA managed some
fair peaks in and out around the same time. There was somewhat of a lull
between 1345 and 1410 as signals tapered off somewhat, especially from 1566
(which never again came close to its monstrous level). The lull was only the
calm before another low band bonanza, however, as 594-JOAK and 603-HLSA began
potent runs around 1425, with both of them reaching S9 peaks in and out around
1435. 603-China was joining in the fun with the KBS2 regular at a much lesser
strength, while a presumed 738-BEL2 was also coming out of the noise at an
anemic level. The NHK2 big guns on 693 and 747 were also managing very good
peaks, and a fair-strength 657-Pyongyang came out of the noise with its dreary
orchestral music. The high band sounded deflated after its earlier performance,
with 1566-HLAZ's Chinese service far off its Japanese service strength--
although the unusual performer 1377-CNR1 did manage to get some fair peaks
through the horrendous 1360 Tacoma splatter just before 1445. Unlike yesterday
the band seemed to fold early, with Asian signals generally bailing by 1450.
Overall it was a pretty exciting session, with 1566-HLAZ's monster peak at 1344
strong enough become the first TP to give the new C.Crane Skywave its first
serious crunch-resistance test.
