Colin might be interested in knowing that there was indeed a rather potent
sunrise enhancement for the TP's this morning, but it was all for the benefit
of the NHK big guns. What started off looking like a real clunker session was
rescued somewhat by a dramatic propagation boost for the Japanese just prior to
1400, with 594, 693, 747 and 774 all reaching very good levels.

At my 1250 start time the band was dreary indeed, with only 774-JOUB and
1566-HLAZ managing fair audio in and out. Throughout the predawn darkness up to
1330 only a few other big guns managed poor audio (594, 693, 747 and 828),
while all the second-tier Asians were missing in action. The session seemed
like a real clunker until 1340, when 594-JOAK started a pretty impressive run
from the noise level up to very good strength. 693-JOAB and 747-JOIB soon
followed in the same way, and these NHK big guns (including 774-JOUB, which is
on a very noisy frequency here) suddenly sounded very healthy while all the
other Asians were stuck down in the noise. 693-JOAB hit an S9 level temporarily
with its 3+1 pips at 1400, while for once the Vancouver splatter was missing in
action. The NHK big guns stuck around until about 1410 here, when they also
turned their nose up at the lackluster propagation. Overall best signal was
from 693-JOAB around 1400, in between NHK2 Chinese and English lessons. The
session would have been very dreary except for the dramatic surge of the NHK
big guns, at a time when all the other Asians seemed to be taking the day off.
