I have been plagued by nasty harsh "line noise" type interference for past couple of months . I finally decided to see if something in the house was causing it.
I found it pretty quickly. It was an LED lightbulb that must be going bad. I have 2 of them in ceiling fan. I was amazed at how much hash this thing threw out and how much distance it covered. It was picked up even by external antenna (inverted vee). I got the LED bulbs as I thought they would be radio friendly. The other one is quiet, so something must be going wrong in the offending bulb. If you are using these and have mystery hash interference in the AM band, you might check them. Mine was a Utilitech LA190M. A 7.5 watt bulb that replaced 60 watt incandescent. From Lowes. Probably 2 years of use.
