I heard what I assume was Tonga-1017 thundering in at 1350 with what
sounded like a sports play-by-play. It was definitely in an island
language and not Tagalog. Romania was mentioned several times.
The Rugby World Cup is taking place right now. Tonga is participating,
so Radio Tonga is probably there to broadcast the highlights. Romania
played Italy today, so that's apparently the game they were covering at
the time.

Just heading out the door here Gary, so detailed analysis will have to

talk sounded islandish rather than the expected English or Korean.
It didn't peak here until 1417UT, though had been nagging for some time.
BUT, 1017 has Filipinos on it also, and a quick re-listen makes me
wonder if it was Tagalog. I'll post it later for more informed
opinion from others. And then, I wonder if maybe that was what you
were hearing, as the Philippines isn't that far south of the other
east Asia bearings.
The Graylanders will have recordings to back this supposition up as
well, with presumably, a thunderous ID on the hour.
best wishes,

Li....With the exception of 738's strong signal sunrise enhancement
was fairly routine, with only an unusually good signal on 1017
(presumed CRI) late on around 1400......... 1017 was one of the few
unusual performers around 1355, and although Nick reported Tonga as
being on late, the null bearing and Korean-type speech seemed to
indicate CRI.
