A Hawaiian on 740 when Tahiti is on 738?  Does that seem like bad frequency 
planning?  On this end of the continent I know that not too far of a drive from 
CBN 640 St. John's NL, the heterodyne effect of Spain on 639 rapidly becomes 
apparent.  Factoring in 9 kHz channel plan interference to 10 kHz channel 
stations is not on the radar of most broadcast facility planners.  But in 
coastal areas it may need to be considered.
