<<< re: 531 Any locations heard for those marine forecasts? Or was it a round-up of multiple coastal and inland Queensland locations with conditions and temps being carried by a state-wide network? Wasn't it Gary who uploaded a clip of 4KZ doing something similar after extended news (mebbe at 1300 UT) back in our summer? >>> Walt and Theo, 531-4KZ was the dominant DU on the frequency on most days at Rockwork 4 this summer, and sent out a lot of marine forecasts around the TOH. Like Nick says 4KZ has a pretty distinctive 6 pip TOH signal (6 equally spaced tones of equal pitch, as in the MP3 linked at https://app.box.com/s/x6fwil5gxbi4pjjo7jbr8pfnys5o8nhr ), and typically plays classic American pop music tunes. At Rockwork 4 there was always one large FSL antenna continually receiving 531, so I ended up with hours of 4KZ recordings, including about 10 commercial ads with phone numbers. By the way, the Kiwi Samoan station 531-PI had some disastrous antenna work done in April, causing its signal to nosedive in comparison to past years. 73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) From: "Theo" < [email protected] > To: "Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America" < [email protected] > Sent: Friday, October 23, 2015 7:55:43 PM Subject: Re: [IRCA] Masset DXpedition 15 - 23 October, 2015: MW perspective Part 1
