I have a page of log notes but a more Halloween inspired collection of observations may be more appropriate. Listened from 1302 until 1420 UTC and then checked in again at 1530 UTC.
The big NHK guns were clearly spooked by today's ionospheric ghostliness - NHK strong arms were little more than ephemeral illusions on 594, 747, 774 and 828 but would occasionally appear out of nothing and glow brightly for a few minutes at a time. What left me shivering was Happy FM owning 558khz and 603khz the entire morning from Korea. There were some seance level whispers on 531 khz at quite a few passes that sounded entirely kiwi -- which is something I do not hear often. 612khz often materialized with the stereotypical "G'day mate" style patter. Despite the hallucination that South Korea owned the dial, there were sightings of content on frequencies like 1044, 963, 1323 at times - often at good levels - assuming China. Maybe this is normal for this time of the year but it was abundantly clear that NHK and Japan in general decided to cower under the covers and let the Korean peninsula shine through. Receivers: Drake D8 and Icom R71 (resurrected from a local Ham's discard pile - and an awesome radio!) Antennas: W/NW Flag with DIY Vactrol remote termination controller and Wellbrook ALA100 -- *Colin Newell is the Editor and creator of Coffeecrew.com <http://www.Coffeecrew.com> - Coffee.bc.ca <http://Coffee.bc.ca> and DXer.ca <http://www.DXer.ca> -| Amateur Radio VA7WWV | Twitter.Com/CoffeeCrew | Victoria B.C.
