WRKO Boston dumps a strong signal in here on 680 kHz even though the
Burlington, MA transmitter site is a distance of 76 miles / 123 km.

Signal level (per V-Soft, average of two nearby post offices): 4.68 mV/m (73.4
dBu) day and night.

As I have been reviewing some late December Perseus captures, I ran across a
good one.

On December 22 at 7 p.m. EST (UTC Dec. 23 at 0000), WRKO was off the air!

Having a major "pest" vacate a channel always presents DX opportunities.

There were three audios in there but two were quite good and swapping dominance.

These turned out to be stations that I hear fairly often even with WRKO on
(thanks to an antenna nulling north). But still good to have them in without
the interference.

Colombia (HJBU, R.Nacional, Zambrano) was the first making it through with
Radio Nacional de Colombia network ID at 0000 UTC.

WAPA San Juan, Puerto Rico took over at 0002 UTC with an extended Wapa Radio
jingle.

The third audio, also Latin American, never got out from behind HJBU and WAPA.
Cuba or Venezuela seem like candidates for that.

Domestics beside WRKO are seldom noted on 680. WPTF-NC shows up just before
sunset pattern shift. MD and ON are quite rare. That's about it.

On another WRKO topic, the following is forwarded from a Facebook posting by DJ
Bob Nelson:

WRKO 680 Boston one of several AM stations doing retro shows (on Sat. night
etc). Jeff Lawrence writes: "Well HERE IT IS - For those who grew up in the
Boston area in the mid-60's and into the early 70's, THE station in town was
the new BOSS Radio station - WRKO. Well they have decided to bring back that
golden age! Starting NEXT Saturday night (and every Saturday night) The BIG 68
returns! And I'm very excited to say I'll be he host from 7-11! Taking requests
- MOSTLY 60's rock & roll like it was , complete with the retro WRKO jingles!
We'll chat a little about where we hung out, the bands we went to see, and hear
all those great songs - Motown, British Invasion, Girl groups - The Beatles,
Neil Diamond, The Righteous Brothers, Roy Orbison, Martha & The Vandellas and
MORE! It'll be up to YOU what I play! We'll have a lot of fun, and who knows
who'll call in or stop by!!! It starts THIS Saturday night - on 680 WRKO!!! And
streaming on line as well! Let's do this!!!"
