Colin, Thanks for including this in your post. We were there when it happened, looking down on the fire in the Marina but not really grasping what was happening to the homes situated on the gelatinous surface. With no AC, we watched what was going on using our 8” battery operated b&w TV set.
I do have a question, though. KGO lost a tower and ran using about 7 or 8kw for four months or so. Obviously it was being picked up by some listener in the Bay Area and relayed on the ham band. However, I do not think they would have been able to continue transmitting without some down time for rewiring, and surely, some announcement relating to the reduced coverage would have to have been made.
