Hello All,

The Sony ICF-S5 classic portable from 1980 has the reputation of being one of
the most sensitive AM-DXing portables ever manufactured. Roughly equivalent in
sensitivity to the Panasonic RF-2200, it was the Japanese-market equivalent of
the legendary ICF-S5W portable-- which usually commands hundreds of dollars
during the rare occasions when it is offered on eBay. Back in 1980, the ICF-S5
was marketed in Japan by Sony with the nickname of "The Superstar."

The all-new 3" Bar FSL Tecsun PL-380 model has its own advantage, however-- a
transplanted FSL antenna enhancing its own AM sensitivity up to a phenomenal
level. Of course it also has DSP selectivity, 500 memories, multiple digital
search functions and other 21st century refinements-- but such concepts were
only "wishful thinking" back in 1980.

See how these two awesome AM-DXing portables shake out in the daytime DX
reception of 1070-CFAX (10 kW at 99 miles) in the new video posted at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY9u8MReGjk&feature=youtu.be  . The link for
the "Heathkit-like" full construction article is also included.
